When you talk to internal comms professionals on how they started in the profession many will tell you they fell into it, myself included! It’s a story that would be great to change and hear more people saying they choose internal communication as a career.
#IChooseIC is a campaign been led by the Institute of Internal Communications (IOIC) to change the story from ‘I fell into internal communication’ to ‘I chose internal communication’. For those who have followed my IC journey over the past few years, you’ll know I’m passionate about championing the profession and so I’m excited to now be an #IChoseIC Ambassador.
Ask me anything
The #IChooseIC ambassadors are on hand to provide insights, encouragement and support to those who might not be aware of internal communication as a career of choice. The ambassador network can help in several ways including:
- Attending career insight sessions
- Supporting mentoring programmes
- Delivering skills development opportunities
- Sitting on panel events
If you haven’t already, take a look here at the stories on why fellow comms practitioners choose IC as their career choice. If you would like to share your story you don’t need to be an ambassador, just send yours to firstname.lastname@example.org.
A network for IC newcomers
I can’t end this post without mentioning about FutureNet, an IOIC network available to any member with less than three years of internal comms experience. The committee run events, develop content and provide a space to support practitioners at a similar stage of their initial career. If you’re an IOIC member, find out more details here on how to join.
Something for everyone
If you aren’t an IOIC member then why not check out the Horizon Guild group. It’s open for anyone to join and is a space for anyone #NewtoIC to ask questions, find advice and network with others at a similar stage of their career. Whether you’re a student, stepping into your first IC role or thinking of applying for a role, you’ll find a friendly community waiting for you.
